2015 San Luis Obispo Train Day

Event activities in and around the historical Freight House included Running Model Trains, Railroad Swap Meet, Kids Activities, Music, Railroad Art and Photography, Amtrak Display, Operation Lifesaver Display, Santa Maria Valley Railroad Display, Ceremony to Rename the Museum's 1926 Pullman Observation Car as well as various Presentations and Tours. The day's schedule is outlined below.
Free Admission for events and displays on the exterior of the Freight House and on the trackside platform. A modest admission was charged to enter the Freight House. Only $10 for an entire family!
This event was associated with Amtrak Train Days which is a program focusing on passenger railroading events around the country. The SLORRM's Central Coast Railroad Festival scheduled for October 1-4 of this year will also be part of Amtrak Train Days. This multi-month Amtrak Train Days promotion replaces National Train Day which was a yearly one-day event.

2. Swap Meet Starts on Museum Platform and RR films start in Presentation Area
3. Coffee & pastries for sale by Rancho BBQ Company at North End of Museum
4. Guided Walk of the SLO Railroad Historic District. Join experienced local Sierra Club leader, Joe Morris, in a stroll past fifteen sights in the old commercial district, depot area, and century-old boardinghouses. He will tell stories about the heyday of the Southern Pacific during the steam age, the 1890s to 1950s, when the SP dominated public life, transforming SLO from a cow town to a boomtown. Children welcome. No charge or reservations needed. Meet at Gus's Grocery, corner of Osos and Leff Streets. Done about 11:30AM.
As part of the La Cuesta Christening Ceremony, the Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad presented the Museum with a $2500 check toward renovation of the car. These funds were raised at the Friends' gala, Puttin' on the Ritz, held a few weeks ago.
Today's SLO Train Day is part of Amtrak Train Days.
